LYKOS’ Innovative Design Includes Laser and RED-i Target Built Directly Into Objective for Easy Integration with Standard Microscopes and Research Processes

BEVERLY, MA and TORONTO, Ontario – June 27, 2011 - Hamilton Thorne Ltd. (TSX-V: HTL), a leading provider of advanced laser systems for the regenerative medicine, fertility and stem cell research markets, today announced the launch of its ground-breaking LYKOS™ laser system for the clinical and fertility markets. LYKOS™ will be unveiled during the 27th Annual Meeting of the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE) taking place in Stockholm, Sweden, July 3-6, 2011.

The LYKOS™ is a significant advance in integrated laser optics, providing additional functionality, improved optics, increased resolution and compatibility with all major microscope models. The elegant and sleek new design of the LYKOS™ is engineered to have the laser and RED-i target locator built directly inside the objective, saving researchers from tedious alignment procedures. The improved working distance will be a significant advantage in the daily workflow. The laser also features enhanced UV transmission/fluorescence, which is compatible with many fluorescing stains. The LYKOS™ also offers additional benefits for cutting-edge clinical processes such as trophectoderm biopsy, blastomere biopsy, pre-implantation genetic diagnosis (PGD), and laser-assisted hatching.

“The new LYKOS™ represents a quantum leap in laser technology with its compact design, long working distance and excellent optics,” said Meg Spencer, Chief Executive Officer of Hamilton Thorne Ltd. “The image quality and increased resolution provides our customers with immediate benefits, especially in IVF clinics. The LYKOS™ is already generating strong customer interest with a number of units pre-sold prior to the launch. Further, with its enhanced capabilities, researchers can perform advanced cellular research that should lead to improved scientific processes. Current research using laser technology is unmasking potential therapeutic treatments for today’s most devastating diseases.”
